Our History

The Dobby Garden was named after the beloved Parks & Recreation Supervisor Arrick “Dobby” Turner, who died in early 2020. Turner was extremely loved and admired throughout the Inglewood community, and dedicated 30 years of his life serving the Inglewood Parks & Recreation Department.

"The garden came out of the roses...Dob had me plant roses (in front of the building). One day we were looking at the space back there, just talking, he asked me, 'You think we can put a garden back there?" Coach Tony Kelley, worked hand and hand with Dobby. They began working on weekends with an elderly group in 2018. Their first year at the garden they grew potatoes, peppers, bell peppers, onions, greens, and tomatoes.

As residents and city employees mourned the passing of their dear friend and colleague, the Dobby Garden turned out to be a much-needed, nearly therapeutic project that helped the community come together and continue Dobby's legacy.
